Jewelry Care

Tips for the care + keeping of your jewelry

THE DO'S
  • DO wear your jewelry with abandon, expressing your unique style, but remove it at the end of the day.
  • DO make jewelry the last thing to go on, after sunscreens, lotions and perfumes have been applied AND dried. Remove jewelry at the end of the day.
  • DO keep your chains fastened so they don’t become  tangled, and store in a dark, cool, and dry space.
  • DO store sterling and fine silver jewelry in a sealed plastic bag or airtight box when not being  worn, to keep out the air that causes oxidation and tarnishing.
  • DO clean by gently wiping with a soft, non-abrasive cloth or chamois.
THE DON'TS
  • DON'T wear jewelry in the shower, while swimming in the pool or ocean, sunbathing, or while working up a serious sweat. Exposure to water, salt, and chemicals will tarnish, discolor, or wear away fine metal plating and may discolor and weaken beading cord. Additionally, soap residue may dull the finish of jewelry.
  • Sunscreen, lotions, perfumes, and hairspray may be good on you, but are bad on your jewelry. Avoid direct contact with fine metal plating, gemstone beads, and leather as they can become stained or discolored.
  • DON'T use metal cleaners, dips, or treated polishing cloths, as the harsh chemicals will damage and wear away fine metal plating.

Natural Stones

  • Gemstones are delicate and can chip or shatter on impact with hard surfaces. Please take care when handling and storing.
  • Avoid direct contact with sunscreen, lotions, perfumes, and hairspray as gemstone beads can become stained or discolored.
  • Prolonged exposure to sunlight can cause some natural gemstones to lose their color and fade, so avoid storing jewelry in direct sunlight.

24K Gold / Fine Silver Plating

  • The majority of our plated findings and metal beads are either 24k gold plating or .999 fine silver (greater purity than sterling silver), plated over lead-free pewter or brass.
  • Our items are cast in the USA using the pewter alloy NL7, then are finished with a water-based acrylic solution that provides an antique finish, prevents tarnish, and yellowing.
  • Findings have been tested with Mutual Cornell and have certification that they have passed the EU Standards for lead and nickel release (0% nickel content and certified lead-free).
  • Don't use metal cleaners, dips, or polishing agents as these will damage or wear away fine metal plating.

Gold Vermeil/Rose Gold/Sterling Silver

  • It sounds fancy and it IS fancy (it’s pronounced ‘ver-may’, by the way), but what does it mean, and how is it different than ‘gold plated’? Gold vermeil and rose gold pieces have a solid base of sterling silver at the core, and a heavy plating of gold which is a minimum of 2.5 microns thick.
  • Gold vermeil, rose gold, and solid sterling silver pieces are stamped with the 925 mark to indicate the sterling silver purity of the core.
  • The plating process makes the jewelry very durable, but as with anything plated, it is advisable to avoid using metal cleaners, dips, or polishing agents on gold vermeil and rose gold, as these will damage fine metal plating.

Leather

  • Keep leather dry at all times and clean with a soft, damp cloth or specially formulated leather cleaner.
  • Exposure to water, salt, and chemicals will weaken and change the color of leather.
  • Don't use metal cleaners, dips, or polishing agents as these will wear away fine metal plating on findings and closures.
